The name of villa comes from the pair of 17th century statues that guards the entrance and the villa itself is connected with the history of the near Castello di Montegufoni.

Villa Leoncavallo is a charming authentic Tuscan villa rising in a fabulous location above the Castle of Montagufoni in the midst of Chianti hills of Montespertoli.
It stands between Florence and Sienna in a very quiet and panoramic place on a hilltop that dominates the valley.

In the XVI century, where the villa is now located - enclosed by a circle of cypresses - lay the oratory of the nearby monastery of "Le Calvane", which was dedicated to the Madonna of the snow and contained a painting of her. In 1709, by request of Cardinale Nicola Acciaioli - who later became papal candidate - the painting departed from the oratory by an ox-driven cart to be transported to the chapel of the Castle of Montegufoni. When the oxen arrived at the nearby Castle, disobeying the driver, they refused to stop and continued until they reached the Church of San Lorenzo where the painting was hung and where it remains today.

At the end of the 19th century where the oratory lay was built the villa as a farm building and the surrounding land was cultivated.
Today the owners live in the central part of the building and they are always glad to help you with any information. The other two sides as well as the antique hayloft in the garden have been changed into holiday accommodation.

Villa Leoncavallo is never crowded since it has only five comfortable apartments.
Leoncavallo 3 (55 sq.m) on the second and top floor, comprises two double bedrooms, bathroom with shower and a large living room with kitchen corner with oven and dishwasher.Central heating, private Air conditioning, satellite TV, Free internet connection and telephone (for outgoing calls only). It's possible to have barbecue in the large fenced garden around the villa and there are several covered pergolas and terraces where the guests may dine al fresco.

There also is a lovely swimming pool (12x6 m.- 1.40 m. deep) well equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. Around the swimming pool mature olive trees provide plenty of shade and are ideal for an afternoon nap, a quiet read or maybe drinking one of the good Chianti wine of the district.

When the pool is closed for the season then the area offers within a very short distance a tennis court, 2 stables and a bicycle outlets, or, for the walker a wide range of trekking routes with panoramic views of great beauty. At walking distance in two different directions there are two villages (1000 and 1500 metres away) with grocery and newspaper shops, post office and good restaurants and pizzerias where to test very good local food.
